Assigning Management Roles

In EmpowerID, Management Roles are collections of "operational capabilities" that have been packaged together as job-based bundles to allow for the quick and easy bulk assignments of resources to resource users in a way that matches what they do in your organization. When you assign Management Roles to users, you give the assignees of that Management Role the ability to perform the operations and rights assigned to the Management Role. Management Roles can be assigned to individual people, Business Roles and Locations , groups and Query-Based Collections or SetGroups.

This topic demonstrates how to assign Management Roles to different types of users in EmpowerID and is divided into the following activities:

To assign Management Roles to People

  1. From the Navigation Sidebar of the EmpowerID Web interface, navigate to the Management Role management page by expanding Identities and clicking Management Roles.
  2. From the Management Role management page, search for the Management Role you want to assign and then click the Display Name link for that role.
  3. This directs you to the View One page for the Management Role. View One pages allow you to view details about an object in EmpowerID and make changes to those objects as needed.

  4. Expand the People as Members of Management Role accordion and then click the Add (+) button in the accordion grid.
  5. In the Enter a Person Name to Search field that appears, type the name of the person you want to make a member of the role and then click the tile for that person.
  6. Click the Save button.
  7. This adds the assignment to your shopping cart.

  8. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each person you want to add to the role.
  9. When completed adding people, click the cart icon, type a reason for the assignment in the cart dialog and then click Submit.
  10. You should see the new member(s) in the People as Members of Management Role grid.

To assign Management Roles to Other types of Users

  1. From the Navigation Sidebar, navigate to the Management Role management page by expanding Identities and clicking Management Roles.
  2. Search for the Management Role you want to assign and then click the Display Name link for that role.
  3. In the following image, the Locations pane and the Actions pane have both been collapsed to conserve screen real estate.

    This directs you to the View One page for the Management Role. View One pages allow you to view details about an object in EmpowerID and make changes to those objects as needed.

  4. Expand the Other types of Management Role Members accordion.
  5. From the accordion, click the Edit link for the member type you want to make a member of the role. In our example, we are assigning the Management Role to a group.
  6. In the Search field that appears, type the name of the specific member you want to assign to the Management Role and then click the tile for that member. In our example, we are adding the Help Desk group to the Management Role.
  7. Click Save.
  8. You should see the new member(s) in appropriate pane.
