Mapping EmpowerID Locations to External Locations

If you create new EmpowerID Locations that are to be used for managing resources from an external directory subsequent to the initial mapping and inventorying of that directory has occurred, you will need to map the new EmpowerID Location to the appropriate directory location. For example, if you create an EmpowerID Location named "Dublin" and move people to that location, in order for the user accounts linked to those people to be moved to a corresponding "Dublin" OU in the external directory, the Dublin EmpowerID Location must be mapped to the Dublin OU.

This topic demonstrates how to map EmpowerID Locations to external directory locations.

Prerequisites: To map an EmpowerID Location to an external directory location, the external location must exist in an external directory to which EmpowerID is connected. For information on connecting EmpowerID to external directories, see Connecting to Directory Systems.

To map an EmpowerID Location to an External Location

  1. From the Navigation Sidebar of the EmpowerID Web interface, navigate to the Business Roles and Locations management page by expanding Identities and clicking Business Roles and Locations.
  2. From the Business Roles and Locations management page, click the Locations tab and search for the EmpowerID Location you want to map.
  3. From the grid, click the Display Name link for the location.
  4. This directs you to the View One page for the location. View One pages allow you to view details about an object in EmpowerID and make changes to those objects as needed.

  5. From the View One page for the EmpowerID Location, click the Mapped External Locations accordion to expand it.
  6. If any mappings exist for the location, you will see them in the Mapped External Locations grid. In our example, no mappings exist.

  7. Click the Add (+) button and in the Mapped Locations dialog that appears, do the following:
    1. Tick Is Primary if the mapping is to be the primary mapping.
    2. Underneath Select an External Location, click the Select an External Location link.
    3. In the Location Selector that appears, search for and select the appropriate external location and then click Save to close the Location Selector.
    4. In the main Mapped Locations dialog, click Save.

    This adds the Mapping to the Shopping Cart.

  8. Click the Shopping Cart icon and type a reason for the mapping the cart dialog and then click Submit.
  9. You should see the new mapping appear in the Mapped External Locations accordion.
